Jay-Z is the First Rapper to be Inducted Into the Songwriters Hall of Fame

Braking records and taking names is still the name of Jay-Z’s game. For years we’ve listened to Jay-Z’s music in awe of his lyrical genius and crazy word play and that talent has gained him the recognition he deserves. Yesterday, Jay-Z was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and not only that, he upped the ante being the first rapper to be inducted. The Songwriters Hall of Fame described Jay Z as an “accomplished lyricist,” recognized for his “remarkable wordplay.” Chance the Rapper took the time to congratulate on Twitter: S/o to my OGs, Jay Z and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, who were elected to the Songwriters Hall of Fame today. Joe Budden decided to share the video for his track “I Wanna Know” featuring Stacy Barthe off of his new album Rage and the Machine today. Over the sample “Wish That You Were Mine” by The Manhattans, Budden reflects on the events of his younger years and how they have affected his life. Indecent proposals. Those can be the start or the end of a great thing.  No matter what you stand to gain from the situation, the better question is always…is it worth it? The 1993 drama, Indecent Proposal influenced “Please Forgive Me”, Drake’s new addition to his catalog of short films. The 20 min short film fuses tracks from Drake’s platinum-selling album Views with action packed scenes depict the possible outcome of a indecent proposal. Tracks included are “Weston Road Flows”, “9”, “Views” and “Summer’s Over Interlude”. “One Dance” and “Controlla” are included as music videos. The film turns Drake from a lover to fighter. New Artist: H.E.R…..Who is she though?

For this Monday’s Music Monday, I found a new songstress that caught my ear. I was listening to Apple Music Radio, the R&B station, and bumped into a song titled ‘Losing’ and I couldn’t help, but stop and listen. I love a beautiful voice, but it’s always better with beautifully written lyrics. She opened with,“My ambition is attractive/My aggression isn’t passive/I promise with you/The butterflies in my stomach are active”, and immediately as a young woman I was able to relate. I then decided to listen to her entire EP and I loved it. Of course, you look at the album cover and can’t help but wonder…who is she? That’s when I put my Google skills to work. First, I Googled ‘H.E.R.‘ and an old movie popped up. Than I decided to add ‘Vol.1‘ and there it was. But as I read some of the articles they had no image to attach to the artist. It was like she mysteriously dropped an EP without revealing her actual identity. When google didn’t give me what I wanted …

New Video: When you get your cake and eat it too…Drake’s ‘Child’s Play’

You know like I know, like everybody in the hood know that 80% of men ‘want their cake and eat it too’. I remember hearing this idiomatic proverb as an adolescent and didn’t really get it. But naturally with life’s experiences, I unfortunately have become very familiar with the true meaning. It’s true, men especially want to retain their pretty little piece of cake for the feeling they get just looking at it, but wouldn’t mind eating it for dessert. So, what do they do to meet their needs at the half way point… they pick up multiple women and categorize them. Maybe she is great at fallatio, maybe she can cook her butt off or maybe she’s the perfect arm candy…either way they want it ALL. Drake gives us the perfect visual of having your cake and eating it too with his new video’Child’s Play’. New Music: Fat Joe’s Love You To Pieces featuring Bryson Tiller

I love me some R&B and there is nothing better when I find a well produced collaboration between a rapper and an R&B artist. It’s the softer side of the rapper that I love hearing. My most recent find is a collaboration between veteran Joey Crack and rookie Bryson Tiller on a track titled ‘Love You To Pieces’. Unbeknownst to me, before Bryson Tiller’s recent success, Fat Joe was interested in signing him, but instead decided to do a few collaborations and this track was one of the final products. Not only do I love the lyrics and the tempo, but I love the fact that I use the phrase ‘Love You To Pieces’ frequently and it made me smile. Listen to the track above.
